Bono from U2 Apologizes for Forcing ‘Songs of Innocence’ on iTunes Users

Bono apologized for his part in making  U2’s new album “Songs of Innocence‘ a mandatory free download on iTunes.  Although U2 thought this strategy was a good idea at the time, many iTunes customers thought this was really rude and intrusive, and didn’t at all like that iTunes auto downloaded this free album without their notification or permission.

This is a good lesson for indie musicians too.  Just because you want to get your music heard, don’t expect to blindly send out cd’s to everyone you think of and expect to hear back glowing reviews…or even hear back at all if you don’t reach out to prospective customers or business associates in the right way.  It’s understandable if you want to get your music heard  just make sure you show respect to your key stakeholders in the process.
