1. What is the IMN Desktop Newsletter?

The IMN Desktop Newsletter is a small, simple program that allows you to view HTML pages directly on your computer desktop without surfing the Web. It is less than 300 KB in size and takes less than a minute to download with a dial-up Internet connection. The program that you download should be called: IMN_News_Install.exe

Independent Musicians Network offers the IMN Desktop Newsletter as a free "premium" service for our valued customers, associates, and musician friends. It will notify you automatically when new newsletters, updates, and special offers are available from the Independent Musicians Network. Many special offers and updates are available exclusively to our IMN Desktop Newsletter subscribers.

2. How does the IMN Desktop Newsletter work?

After you download and install the software, a small icon is added to the taskbar in the lower right corner of your computer desktop.

When your computer is connected to the Internet, the IMN Desktop Newsletter automatically checks our web site for new messages. If a new message is available, the taskbar icon will blink and a small notification window will appear above it with the subject line of your new message -- simply click the notification to open and read the message.

The messages you receive are stored in the IMN Desktop Newsletter inbox, where you can manage them in the same way you manage your e-mail. Messages in the inbox are "cached" on your computer's hard drive, so you can read them even if your computer is not connected to the Internet. (However, you must connect to the Internet before you can receive new messages.)

You can manually check for new messages at any time by right-clicking the icon in your taskbar tray and selecting "Check for New Messages."

3. What are the benefits of receiving messages this way instead of by e-mail?

Subscribing to this "premium" service gives you a number of advantages over an e-mail subscription:

  • First access to our IMN Desktop Newsletter and other messages, which are released to IMN Desktop Newsletter subscribers BEFORE being sent out by e-mail!

  • Guaranteed delivery of every issue of the IMN Desktop Newsletter -- no more accidental filtering or blocking of the e-mail version by ISPs and filtering software!

  • Special "Desktop-Only" editions of the newsletter, plus special tips and offers available ONLY to our IMN Desktop Newsletter subscribers!

Plus, you'll never need to search through your crowded e-mail inbox again to find the latest issue of the newsletter -- when each issue is ready, you'll instantly receive a notification on your desktop.

5. Are there any special hardware or software requirements?

IMN Desktop Newsletter will work on almost any PC as long as you are using Internet Explorer version 5.5 or higher as your web browser. If you are using another web browser (such as Netscape or Mozilla) or an older version of Internet Explorer, you can download the latest version for free by going to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.asp.

If you are using a Mac computer, you will need to download and run a "PC emulator" program in order to view your messages. For a list of free PC emulator software, visit http://www.macwindows.com/emulator.html#PCEmulators.

6. How do I open my IMN Desktop Newsletter inbox to read my messages?

IMN Desktop Newsletter messages are stored in a special "inbox," which you can open at any time by right-clicking the icon in your taskbar tray and selecting "Open Message Browser." To read any message in your inbox, double-click the subject line of the message you wish to open.

7. Can I manage my existing messages?

Yes! You can mark IMN Desktop Newsletter messages as "read" or "unread," or delete messages that you do not wish to keep. Note that some messages will "expire" after a certain period of time -- regular newsletters usually expire after a few weeks, whereas a special offer might expire after 12 or 24 hours.

To manage your messages in the IMN Desktop Newsletter inbox, click the subject line of the message you wish to change, then select the action you wish to take from the "Options" menu.

8. Is the IMN Desktop Newsletter "spyware"?

No! Reflections Marketing LLC and The Independent Musicians Network does not create or support spyware products of any kind.

Spyware is software that gathers information about a person's computer without their knowledge. When you download a spyware program (usually disguised as a "helpful" free download), it can begin "spying" and recording information about your computer activity -- including your keystrokes, your Internet search history, and even the passwords you use!

Spyware can be extremely difficult to remove from your computer -- so be careful what you download! To find out if a program is spyware before you download it, you can visit SpywareGuide.com and search their list of known spyware programs.
